OKAY that was a fucking rollercoster, and I'm not usually prone to long reaction posts, but this is the culmination of years of build up and I do have thoughts
First let me say that I enjoyed this movie a lot. I was totally taken into the story, and while it's not perfect, I feel like it delivers a lot both on the emotional/character side of things, and the epic adventure and plot aspect.
this is gonna be pretty unstructured so I apologize for that
- the time travel!!! I know it wasn't much of a surprise, but I love time travel in stories, and at a time where an era of the MCU ends, I feel it was the perfect mean to revisit significant moments of the saga and it delivered some awesome charcter moments
- on a general note, i really like that, for the first time since AoU, the og team is back together, with some extra people, and they do feel like a team. also some tony&steve reconciliation a+++. i just... wish we could have had more (i will never be a fan of CACW *sigh*)
- the nebula & tony interaction was short-lived but very enjoyable
- the scott&cassie reunion my HEART
- morgan stark is a total sweetheart omgggg
- Gamora/Nebula interaction! and i'm so glad we've got a Gamora back, even if not original Gamora. i'm super sad about past!Nebula, but i can't deny it packed a punch
- here for bruce being one with the hulk and happy with his life, and a total sweetheart with his fans. what a delight
- also not a total surprise but SAM IS CAP NOW. i thought that scene was very well done. on a related note i'm glad that steve got the life he wanted. also poor bucky totally knew what was up *sobs*. I loved the call back to CAFA "you're taking all the stupid with you", nooooooo this hurts. but in a good way
- king!valkyrie (and her awesome flying horse)
- PEPPER IN A SUIT
- cap with mjolnir! i've heard that it's a comic reference? in any case it was badass, and everyone in the theater cheered.
- that final battle was really over the top but also very awesome. of course the entrance of, well, everybody ever, was an epic moment and i loved it. the battle itself knda reminds me of lotr or the battle 5 armies in the hobbit. i liked it but thank god it didn't go on longer. glad to see my son peter parker back in all his awkward glory tho
- on a critical note, that all-women shot was cool and all, but to me it felt like a poor substitute for like, actual female characters talking to each other and having meaningful&plot-relevant relationships. there's gamora & nebula...and i think that's it??? unless i'm forgetting something. anyway do better marvel. i mean, they actually have a truckload of varied and interesting female characters nowadays but most of their interactions are shallow
- to continue in that vein, carol was a literally-shining badass, but i wish she'd gotten more screentime. i know that the main focus was the og 6, but still
- although most of the humor was pretty great, i'm not a big fan of thor's beer gut as a sign of how he's given up and as a source for laughs (*cough fatphobia *cough*)
- oh oh i just realised they got to kill thanos twice. that's pretty cool.
okay not that i've got all that out, let's continue with the super sad bits
- natasha. oh natasha. I'm so sad. and disappointed that she died. I mean, i think it works in story, so I don't totally hate the way they went about it, but it feels like they got rid of her because they don't know what stories to give her. and i'm pissed they killed a woman for the 2nd time for this fucking soul stone
but she could have had so much more to do. like, for a while, she was basically the avengers coordinator, in charge of intelligence and missions and whatnot, but we barely got to see that.
that said, it made some sense plotwise, but i wish it had been someone else (clint) (sorry clint fans - i promise i don't hate him and I AM happy he got to go home again). that bit where they fought over who was gonna sacrifice themself was intense. also THEY TOUCHED FOREHEADS and i was pretty much crying already
- tony. ;___________;
i mean, his whole arc totally made me cry and i think it landed perfectly to give me all the feels (I AM IRON MAN, just kill me!!!). you could see it coming during the movie, so it wasn't a total shock. but still :(
although tbh, at one point early in the movie, my prediction was that they'd end up erasing the post-Snapocalyptic future by going to 2019, instead of the plan they went with. i biggest fear was that tony would have to make a choice to erase his daughter from existence to save the world or some shit like that, so i definitely prefer what happened.
all in all: i really liked it on the first watch - honestly there was so much in there that i was almost ready to catch an afternoon screening to watch it again, except that the 3d gave me a headache so i didn't.

- That bit at Avengers Tower was the most time heist-y and I love it with all my heart. The elevator scene call back! the Cap vs Cap fight! LOKI ESCAPING IN THE COMMOTION.
- i do love that they called it a time heist. i hope someone makes an ocean's 11 style crack fanvid. i need it in my life.
- Frigga and Thor!!! he got to talk to his mom!!! "the wisest person he knows" i'm crying thanks. i totally choose to believe that even if he didn't warn her specifically, she survived the dark elf invasion in this verse
- After all these years, I can't beliEVE we got a canon Howard & Tony closure-thanks-to-time-travel conversation. I have read at least 3 fics that feature that element in one way or another tbh. Like, I'm of two minds about Tony saying "he did his best", because that phrase in media just gives me abuse apologism vibes, but here it felt like, Tony knows that his dad fucked him up, and he's come to terms with it, and he can still be glad and conforted (albeit in a bittersweet way) to see that his dad genuinely wanted to have a child/him.
- also "howard potts" tony loves his wife so much sobs
- Thanos finding out about the time travel via Nebula was such an OH SHIT moment, gosh
- i feel like we need a timeline chart / analysis to clear up what divergences they created when going back. i might have to get on that
