Since things are getting wonkier over on tumblr by the day, I'm importing my rec lists and maybe a few other things. Edited for formatting.

ok so about, oh two years ago (wow time flies), i made a belated dip in stargate fandom for the first time, and i ended up making two rec lists : one gen, one for non-mcshep shippy stuff (not that i don’t like it, but the internet still has plenty of rec lists for that). and this stayed in my drafts for ages and i figured i should post it at last

so here are some of my favorite gen and ensemble fics for your enjoyment, and as a reference for myself. a couple of the fics have background McShep but it’s really not the focus. the fics are ordered by word count.

The Killing Frost by sholio - 100k, John, Rodney, Caldwell, ensemble

A scientific mission gone wrong leaves the Daedalus stranded on an ice planet with Atlantis’s top scientists and a ruthless saboteur. Will rescue come before injuries and the elements take their toll?


The Pegasus Connection by Nomad1 - 100k, crossover with SG-1, ensemble

Conspiracy surrounds Jack’s clone, Baal is on the trail of Ancient technology, and all roads seem to lead to Atlantis.

To tell the truth this is more of a SG-1 fic crossed over with SGA, but it’s long and plotty, and I enjoyed it so I didn’t want to leave it out.


The Stars My Destination by Mad_Maudlin - 92k, fusion with Star Trek Elizabeth, John, Teyla, Rodney, ensemble

When a terror from out of time threatens the heart of the Federation, the crew of the USS Atlantis must band together in order to stop it.

This is one of my favorite SGA fics ever - funnily enough as I usually prefer canon or canon AU fics. It does a great job of merging the two universes by taking elements from both but not clinging too closely to either, and it gives every character a chance to shine.


Freedom’s Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose by synecdochic - 19k, Rodney, Elizabeth, Ronon, OCs, background John/Rodney

Sequel : And the Band’s Playing Hail to the Chef

SGC finally stops calling him by December. Rodney celebrates by writing a final exam for his relativity class so difficult that it reduces four students to tears in the exam hall. Upon reflection, he decides to be merciful and offer partial credit.

ok so this one has been recced literally everywhere but it’s pretty justified.


Refraction by LtLJ - 16k, John, Rodney, Teyla, Ford

It’s a Quantum Mirror, and it probably wants to kill them.


Bring My Soul To Bear by narceus - 13k, crossover with SG-1 and Teen Wolf. Lydia Martin, Sam Carter, Jack O’Neill, Daniel Jackson, Teal’c

Dr. Lydia Martin took being read into the Stargate program pretty well, all things considered. 

This isn’t your typical Teen Wolf crossover (it’s gen for one thing, and good Lydia-centric fic is like finding a gem), and it’s pretty awesome.


Omada by esteefee - 13k, Ronon, John, Solen, Teyla, Elizabeth, Ronon

Ronon returns to find Sateda wasn’t destroyed, but there’s no going back in time.


The Quantity of a Whole by melagan - 10k, Ronon, Teyla, John, Rodney

Everyone works together when Ronon reveals his plan to destroy a Hive ship.

A delightful Ronon-centric team fic, with some backstory about his Satedan days. (it’s tagged as John/Rodney, but it’s firmly in the background).


The Atlantis Job by LtLJ - 9k, crossover with Leverage and SG-1

A client tries to use the Leverage crew to steal classified information from a top secret military organization, and Eliot’s part-time job with Deep Space Telemetry comes to light. .

This is part of the Retrograde series, but you can read it as a standalone if you know Leverage. Two tastes that taste great together.


Walk Beside Me by Rachel500 - 8k, Teyla, Sam Carter, Lorne

When a diplomatic mission is interrupted by the Wraith, Sam and Teyla wrestle their personal demons to work together and find a way back to Atlantis.


Battle Potato by fiercelydreamed - 7k, John, Teyla, Rodney, Ronon

The thing was, John had never been good at patient, and Teyla looked like okay was a couple galaxies over from wherever she was now.


City on the Edge of Forever (the pilot) by synecdochic - 6k, Elizabeth, John, Rodney, Teyla, Ford

An alternate version of the pilot in which the Atlantis expedition is actually as smart as the show kept telling us they were.

The Surly Bonds of Earth by Mad_Maudlin - 5k, John, ensemble

It turns out you can go home again.

I’ve got a real soft spot for fics where the Atlantis team break it off with the SGC, and this fic is particularly delightful.

Gardening instructions. Physics. Oh, and also muggers.


Voyage of the Wraith Hunter by sholio - 3k, John, Ronon, Teyla, Jennifer

“We always thought you were a legend,” the Traveler captain says.


Curly Fries and Other Little Obscenities by taliahale - 2k, crossover with Teen Wolf. Stiles Stilinski, Ford, John, Rodney, background McShep

Stiles is wandering the corridors of Stargate Command in search of caffeine and calories when he meets Major Ford.

This features older!Ford, and well. I’m still mad about what happened to him in canon so it was nice to read about him having a nice life in an AU.

Ronon gave him an uncertain look, then touched his comm unit. “Flight, this is Puddlejumper Two. We’re go for bay launch.“ 


Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History by lunabee34 - 2k, Elizabeth, Teyla, Kate, Miko, Cadman, slight Elizabeth/Teyla

When it’s up to the women to save the day.

An AU of the Return I would have liked to watch.


Intergalactic Penpals by Jedi Buttercup -  <1k, Teyla,Teal'c

Teyla wonders, at times, that one of her dear friends should be a man she’s never met, separated from her by unimaginably distant boundaries.


Postcards to Jeannie + Pictures for Jeannie by sholio - Teyla, Jeannie, Rodney, John, Ronon

Teyla starts sending postcards to Rodney’s sister on Earth; soon everyone else joins the fun.

This one is a lovely mix of pictures and fic. Also female friendship ftw !
